All students have an APA e-mail address that allows them to e-mail teachers.  In order to prevent our students from scams, viruses, and other safety factors we have restricted student access to only allow them to e-mail APA staff, and a few other exceptions.  Click HERE for instructions.

1.29.18 Kindergarten

Good Afternoon!

We are busy, busy, busy in our kindergarten class! We have a new student in our classroom and we are so excited to have a new addition to our classroom family. That brings our classroom number to 18.

Today, our class finished NWEA for reading. All of the kiddos did a great job and most tried their best. Only a couple need to retake. Tests are hard for kindergarten kids to sit through but this one is only 45 questions. This test measures growth throughout the school year. We will take it again towards to end of the school year. I believe it will be after Spring Break.

This week we are talking about Polar Bears and will continue our discussion of fiction and non-fiction books. Hopefully this week will be a full week so we can get all of our fun activities done! We will also be doing some math work with Ground Hogs day on Friday! The students will be making predictions and filling in a graph based on our predictions. Will he see his shadow? Maybe! I’m excited for warmer weather and more time outside.

If you need a new copy of the newsletter or homework please let me know. I sent them home on Friday but sometimes mailboxes don’t get emptied often.

Happy Monday! 🙂

Dear Families,

An allegation of inappropriate speech was made against one of our high school teachers on 10/11/17. APA has high expectations for both our faculty and students, and we are taking this matter very seriously. Appropriate personnel protocols are being followed. As soon as this allegation was reported, the teacher was sent home and placed on administrative leave while an investigation into this allegation could be conducted. The investigation is ongoing at this time, and the teacher will remain on leave until the investigation is concluded. A determination of appropriate disciplinary action will be made at that time. We are also working to ensure that our students will be receiving the best education possible during this investigation and as we move forward.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me or contact Director White or Capt. Berticelli.  Because this is a personnel issue, we may not be able to fully answer or disclose some information, but we will do our best to work with you to make sure your student is continuing to receive the best education possible.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Commandant Barker

Dear Families,

We currently have two reported cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease at APA at the Pre-Academy level and one reported case at the elementary. The students are currently under a doctor’s care and are not in attendance.  Additionally, it appears the flu season has come early this year as we are beginning to have reported cases of the flu and flu-like symptoms. We are taking precautionary sanitation measures throughout both campuses to ensure the well-being of all of our students, families, and staff members. If your student has a fever or is exhibiting symptoms of illness, please make sure that they stay home and get the rest and care needed so that they can return to school healthy and ready to learn.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your building nurse (Nurse Orr – 29th St. ( and Nurse Atwood – 22nd St. ( as they are more than happy to help.

Thank you for your assistance in helping keep all of our students, families, and staff members safe and healthy!

Have a wonderful (and healthy!) weekend!

Commandant Barker
