Almost everyone has finished their Compass placement tests and we will be learning about animals in their habitats in small group instruction this week. We continue to work with NOUNS, and add PROPER NOUNS. Let’s keep discussing that Eagle Eye and Lips the Fish help students to figure out words using the pictures and first letter sounds in the word.

In math we are continuing to learn about place value, one more-one less, and ten more-ten less. E-learning day paper assignments will be coming home Monday, and are also available to download and print.

Jayden found a caterpillar and researched it with his mom. They found out that it was a Woolly Bear and would hibernate all winter. In the spring it will wake up and eat more before it goes into it’s chrysalis. This is an example of choosing an animal and researching it for our e-learning day activity on Friday, September 4th. We ask that students draw and color the animal, draw and color the habitat, and attempt to write a sentence about how the animal’s color or shape help it camouflage into the habitat.
We had a hard time letting him go, but it is what he needed.
Some students are doing a 2nd grade spelling list, but most are studying the first grade list. If your child does the 2nd grade list, I will send you a private text.
In this activity we practiced counting forward and back from any number.
Here we are looking at groups of tens to find the number in the tens place, and the number of ones cubes to find the ones.
Play-doh math was a super fun way to investigate all of the ways to write an equation that equals ten.
Lilli’ana enjoyed rolling dice and counting out popsicle sticks to make bundles of ten. This activity helps students see how numbers can be grouped to make counting easier.
